Honoring Richie Perdew

Updated: Apr 9

In 2024, the WOH Board decided to establish an award in the name of one of our founding members, Richie Perdew, who sadly passed away last December after his long battle with cancer. This annual award not only celebrates Richie's life, but also his tireless and selfless effort to give back to his community. Richie was instrumental in creating and running the New Rochelle Little League for over 25 years.

Each year this award will be given in his memory to someone who embodies his lifelong commitment to service and generous spirit. It was a great honor to present the first Richie Perdew Humanitarian Award to Josh Burack, a dear friend of the WOH Foundation and an even greater friend to the Samela family. A well-respected and honored thoracic surgeon, Josh dedicated his adult life to helping and teaching others. Josh and his family are long time members of the New Rochelle Community.

Sadly, we lost Josh unexpectedly this past January. He is and will continue to be greatly missed by all those who knew him. In his memory, Josh is represented by his wife Emma and his 2 children.

We’re grateful to honor their legacies and the lasting impact they’ve made. 💙
